Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden championship for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a former world number one, has endured a challenging year, winning just one win at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in particular - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Currently training with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents the player's initial championship after the Italian tournament and first on a hard court after that period of that year.

Success also indicates he has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my children simultaneously, so to get a title is particularly special," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, including in that event in the past months.

The player's retrieving approach and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted observers to wonder if his ability to compete at the highest level was finished.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play positively, supported by an improved serve.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, securing four of the last five points to go ahead.

Both players swapped breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

He saved 4 initial break points in a tight final set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev earned victory with a shot at the net, with Moutet failing to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
