Government Official States MoD Examining Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, as Personnel Advised to Avoid Secret Talk in Cars.

An defense official has confirmed that the MoD is currently investigating the possible security risks associated with Chinese cars, and staff have been instructed to avoid discussing secret matters in all vehicles.

Security Advice for Defence Staff

In a recent interview on LBC, Luke Pollard addressed claims that Ministry of Defence staff have been told not to discuss classified material while travelling in China-made cars.

He stated that the MoD is “examining” cars from China within its vehicle pools, however emphasised that security is a issue in all modern cars.

Our department has a collection of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles account for a tiny fraction.
But whether you’re driving a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, what we’ve asked our people is not to plug MoD technology into their vehicle, not to have conversations at a secret classification in any car, due to the growing risks of surveillance that exist in every single automobile, to restrict those confidential talks in protected areas. That’s a wise and sensible thing for anyone worried about security.

After it was suggested that it would be wise for the MoD to cease using all cars from China, Pollard responded: That is precisely what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Broader Security Context

This revelation follows claims from Norway and Denmark have warned the United Kingdom to the existence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese buses, which could enable the Chinese government to switch off public transport and bring chaos to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russia intelligence vessel was reportedly directing lasers at Royal Air Force aircrew, labeled a “highly dangerous” action by government representatives.

This broader defence environment underscores the significance of strong protocols and caution in all aspects of government activities, including transport use to discussions practices.
